ITALY
Italy participates in the project through three institutions: the University of Macerata, the University of Genoa, and the company Approdi. The port of Genoa and the ports of the Marche region, particularly Ancona, will be the main sites of investigation. Approdi will conduct research in all the project countries using audiovisual tools.
TUNISIA
Tunisia participates in the project through the University of Tunis and the destination organization Mdinti. The research will focus on controversial heritage in the city of Tunis, particularly its colonial heritage, Jewish and Black heritage; in the town of Testour, with its Jewish and Morisco heritage; and on the island of Djerba, known for its ancient and deeply rooted Jewish heritage.
CROATIA
Croatia participates in the project through two institutions: the University of Split, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the association HULU – Split (Croatian Association of Visual Artists – Split). Research focuses on Dalmatia and Istria, with a particular focus on Split, primarily exploring heritage related to Jewish communities and other contested narratives. Activities also include artist-led workshops as part of the research and co-creation process.
SPAIN
Spain constitutes a key setting for the study of the construction of otherness through interreligious contact in the late medieval and early modern periods. From the UNED, our research will focus on the principal ports connected to Atlantic and Mediterranean trade, such as Barcelona, Valencia, Almería, and Seville.
KENYA
Kenya participates in the project through Pwani University and Africa Nomads Art Space. The research explores Mombasa’s complex heritage—colonial legacies, slavery, and Swahili-Omani, Asian and Arab diasporic influences—extending to Lamu and sites such as Fort Jesus, Shimoni Slave Caves, and Jumba la Mtwana.
